On Sunday, Near East University was honored with one of the highest honors in the international world of quality, the Business Initiative Directions 2013 International Arch of Europe Award, a Quality Award comparable to the Baldrige in the United States or the Deming in Japan.
Dr. Irfan Günsel. Chairman of the Board of Trustees received the Award in Frankfurt from the President of Business Initiative Directions, Mr. Jose E. Prieto, accompanied by two other distinguished members of the Board, Mr. Ahmet Cagman and Mr. Ahmet Savasan.
Just a few hours before he was set to take the stage before an international audience, Dr. Irfan Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University in North Cyprus, delivered an impacting message via the most prominent Turkish Media Channel, Haber TRT.
Seated at an elegant conference table before other distinguished representatives such as Ahmet Savasan, Board Member of Near East University and Kemal Göker, Representative of the TRNC in Berlin, he addressed viewers with the news of receiving the Business Initiative Directions Arch of Europe Award, one of the most prestigious honors in the world of international quality management, comparable in importance to the Malcolm Baldrige Award in the United States.
Who was Malcolm Baldrige?
Before his death in a rodeo accident in July 1987, he was Secretary of Commerce as of 1981. A constant advocate of the field of quality, he especially defended its role in the prosperity and long-term strength of the USA.
To honor his efforts and contributions in the field, Congress named the award after him.
